Family Fishing Experience
Labrador Fishing Charter out of Scituate Harbor is the GO-TO choice for an offshore family fishing trip. They offer a variety of excursions, and we chose the three-hour kids’ fishing trip.

We met Captain Donnie on the docks between Nona’s and Mill Wharf, and began the trip with a safety briefing. Once the kids had their life jackets on, we motored through scenic Scituate Harbor, past the lighthouse, and out into the ocean.

After about a 30-minute ride, the kids spent the next hour and a half fishing for perch, mackerel and striped bass. Captain Donnie and First Mate Peyton made sure everyone was set up for success and encouraged the kids to handle the rods from start to finish.

The experience gave the kids just the right amount of challenge, and they were thrilled to realize they had brought in their own catches.

On the way back to the harbor, we stopped to pull up a half dozen of Captain Donnie’s lobster traps. It gave the kids a memorable glimpse into a lobsterman’s way of life, and everyone leaned in eagerly as each trap was hauled aboard.

As a bonus, the kids were allowed to help drive the boat back toward the harbor. They marveled at the view and at the feeling of piloting such a large boat

Although the trip was designed with children in mind, the adults enjoyed it just as much. Watching the kids’ anticipation and excitement was a highlight, and seeing Scituate from the water offered a fresh perspective-especially while keeping an eye out for seals and whales.

The trip in and out of the harbor is an experience in itself. Few harbors offer more iconic coastal scenery, making this outing memorable from start to finish.
